I was raised in rural Utah and enlisted in the Army in 1990, proudly serving as a Green Beret for 27 years. My time included 42 months of combat, which resulted in struggles with PTSD, suicidal thoughts, depression, and addiction. Eventually, my father made the difficult decision to have me arrested—this turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. In my journey to healing, I participated in an ayahuasca ceremony. During this transformative experience, the shaman revealed to me that I “was a shaman.” This revelation led me to surrender and begin my apprenticeship under the first of four masters, marking the start of my practice in the healing arts.

About Shamans, Shamanism, and Seidrs

Animism, the oldest form of spirituality, teaches that all things possess a soul. There is no separation between the spiritual and physical worlds, as everything is connected and alive. Shamanism began during and is rooted in animism. A shaman serves as a mediator between the human and spirit worlds. Shamans may call upon the spirits of animals, plants, or other natural entities to aid in healing. A Seidr is the Scandinavian version of a shaman. I have studied and apprenticed within the context of this tradition and identify as a Seidr.
